This was a busy and well attended show. James Wellbeloved kindly sponsored the show which enabled us to give large bags of their complete dog food to Best in Breed , Best Dog, Best Bitch, Best Vetran and Best Puppy. We were also able to give a pack of James Wellbeloved treats to the first in each class including the Pet Classes. We were pleased to have Mrs Christine Keay ( Jaymitch ) as our judge for the day. She awarded Best Bitch & Best in Show to Deborah Hampton & Tina Hall's Mulliebrity True Spirit and Reserve Best in Show, Best Dog & Best Puppy to Ken Ventress's to Dendaric Woodcarver of Junaken. Best Pet went to Hick's Jonvias Time Lord "Ozzy" , & Junior Handling to 7 year old Louisa Bramham who handled Jolliver Ronaldo in Saundaire with great determination. Thank you to our judge for the kindness and encouragment she showed to this young handler.
A special item at this show was a visit from Margaret Wakelin and her Airedale Terrier support dog Ollie. Ollie has been trained to assist her in many different ways, thanks to the Sheffield Support dog Charity. Some of the ways in which Ollie helps Margaret is in dressing, emptying the washer and answering the phone. It was hoped to arrange a demonstration at the show but this had to be abandoned because of logistics. This was a pity as it would have again shown the versatility of the Airedale Terrier. " An Airedale can be trained to do anything any other dog can do and sometimes do it even better!" Margaret, her husband and support trainer were however able to display many photographs of members being helped with their disabilities by their dogs, in particular giving children with autism the confidence to go about their daily lives. They also brought items for sale to help raise funds for this this worth while charity. It is nice to know that an Airedale is leading the way in this area.

The day was a great success yet again. Thank you all for coming and supporting us. We never know how many people and dogs will respond to our invitation, but yet again we were not disappointed. 80+ dogs and their families came along to enjoy the day. Some travel so far that it is necessary for them to make it into a mini break in the homeland of the Airedale Terrier ( Bingley in Airedale ).
This year we were back at the Scout Hall;our original venue. This enabled us to have two circular walks of different lengths; covering river and canal side, woodland and views over Airedale. We are grateful to one of our volunteer marshals who this year supplied us with two way radios. This helped us keep a closer check as to where all the walkers were. The walkers usually walk in small groups, chatting as they go about all the wonderful and amusing things their Airedales do. I saw one Airedale completely submerged ( except for his head and neckerchief ) in the river Aire!
Back at the Scout Hall our secretary and team of helpers, were very busy preparing tasty nourishment for the hungry walkers on their return. Delicious home baked cakes made by our president, along with tea, coffee and soft drinks were available all day.
The raffle was very popular, especially as there were so many excellent prizes. We are grateful to one of our committee members for organizing this. Another popular attraction was advice on how to have a go at hand stripping your pet Airedale and some people enjoyed the challenge of wrapping their patient Airedales up in toilet roll paper. Aren',t our Airedales wonderful?
